Do you have a manuscript, cover letter, or resume that requires copy editing or proofreading? I offer both services at competitive rates.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in English, as well as a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. I was previously the Poetry Editor and Editor-in-Chief of a national literary journal, and I have four years of college-level teaching experience. I’ve worked with nearly 300 students on spelling, grammar, organization, structure, and syntax, among other subject areas. I have also worked as a freelance copy editor and proofreader for two years, consulting on everything from cookbooks to employment applications.
Here are the services I currently offer:
Copy Editing Services
With copy editing, I work with an unfinished product and look for areas of improvement. I find and fix spelling/grammar errors, work to improve the overall syntax (eliminate unnecessary repetition, improve transitions, make sure each sentence is clear, etc.), and make sure the form and style of the document is appropriate for its intended use. This is a more in-depth process than proofreading because I am working with writing that has not yet been edited.

With proofreading, I typically work with finished or nearly-finished products. This means that the document has already been edited and revised, and my job is to check it over for typographical errors and formatting issues. On average, this takes less time than copy editing because I am working with writing that is more polished.

Is there any type of document you do not accept?
I do not accept college admissions essays or documents that will be turned in and graded by an instructor. This is a personal preference. I usually encourage clients in need of editing or proofreading services for documents such as these to take advantage of on-campus tutoring or free tutoring websites that pair students with tutors who are familiar with the subject at hand.
I have something I’d like you to work on! What’s the best way to get in touch with you?
You can fill out my contact form or email me directly at email@example.com.
What should I include in my message or email?
Be sure to provide as many details as possible. Are you interested in copy editing or proofreading? What type of document is it? How many pages would I be looking at? Is there a firm deadline?
How long will it take you to respond to my initial query?
I make a point of responding to emails within 24 hours.
How long will it take you to finish the project?
This depends on what you send me. If it’s a six-page document, I will likely have it back to you within two business days. But if it’s a manuscript of considerable length, it will take more time. This is something we can discuss after you’ve sent me your initial query.
Do I have to sign a contract?
Before I begin work on the project, I will draw up a Letter of Agreement that you will be required to sign. This will explain the specifics of the project and detail the fee(s) and payment terms. This ensures that we have both agreed to the specified terms and intend to proceed with the transaction.
How do I pay you?
I accept payments via PayPal. (If you don’t have a PayPal account, please let me know and we can discuss it further.)
When do I pay you?
Payment is due three days after the project has been completed and returned to you. These terms will be outlined in the Letter of Agreement.
How should I send my documents to you?
You can send everything via email. I do not accept Pages or PDF documents. I prefer Word, .odt, or .rtf documents. I will also accept documents sent via Google Docs.
What if I am dissatisfied with your work?
My goal is to make sure that my clients are 100% satisfied with my work, so if you are dissatisfied for any reason, please contact me as soon as possible and I will do my best to remedy the situation. In situations like this, communication is key, so please do not be afraid to reach out to me.
What if I contact you and you’re already in the middle of a project? Is there a wait list?
I am always forthcoming with potential clients about my current workload and schedule. If I cannot begin work on your project immediately, I will let you know and we can discuss how you would like to proceed.
Can you write something for me? Like a ghost writer?
Nope! The only services I offer at this time are copy editing and proofreading. 🙂
If you have further questions or concerns, please fill out my contact form or email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
