My Five Most Anticipated Reads

There are so many great books coming out this fall and winter! I started with a huge list and managed to narrow it down to just five books. (I’m sort of on a book-buying ban, after all… 😉 ). Organized according to release date, these five are the ones I’m most excited to read, and they range from epic fantasies to thrillers to mysterious fairy tales.

NOTE: Rather than include links to the Amazon listings for these books, I’ve instead included links that will take you to their pre-order listings at Parnassus Books. I’m a big believer in shopping small, and Parnassus Books is an independent bookstore located in Nashville, Tennessee. They also happen to have an impressive selection of signed books, and if you live nearby (or nearby-ish), they have plenty of amazing events coming up, including author events with Sarah J. Maas, Kristin Cashore, Leigh Bardugo, Celeste Ng, and Shanthi Sekaran.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas
Available September 5th, 2017

Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the Captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since the glass castle shattered, since his men were slaughtered, since the King of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.

His only shot at recovery lies with the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme in Antica — the stronghold of the southern continent’s mighty empire. And with war looming over Dorian and Aelin back home, their survival might lie with Chaol and Nesryn convincing its rulers to ally with them.

But what they discover in Antica will change them both — and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined.

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
Available September 26th, 2017

Isobel is a prodigy portrait artist with a dangerous set of clients: the sinister fair folk, immortal creatures who cannot bake bread, weave cloth, or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust. They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and Isobel’s paintings are highly prized. But when she receives her first royal patron — Rook, the autumn prince — she makes a terrible mistake. She paints mortal sorrow in his eyes — a weakness that could cost him his life.

Furious and devastated, Rook spirits her away to the autumnlands to stand trial for her crime. Waylaid by the Wild Hunt’s ghostly hounds, the tainted influence of the Alder King, and hideous monsters risen from barrow mounds, Isobel and Rook depend on one another for survival. Their alliance blossoms into trust, then love — and that love violates the fair folks’ ruthless laws. Now both of their lives are forfeit, unless Isobel can use her skill as an artist to fight the fairy courts. Because secretly, her Craft represents a threat the fair folk have never faced in all the millennia of their unchanging lives: for the first time, her portraits have the power to make them feel.
